China-UNDP Community Based HIV/AIDS Care, Prevention and Poverty Reduction Project

The Project aims to improve the quality of life, self-sufficiency and human dignity of communities, families and individuals affected by poverty and AIDS epidemic through: (a) effective utilization of existing resources, institutions and structures in a participatory and coordinated manner, and  multi-sectoral capacity building, (b) information, education and communication (IEC) to combat discrimination and stigma of people living with HIV as well as gender sensitive information and knowledge to bring about positive behavioral changes to healthy and positive lifestyles, and  prevention of HIV transmission, (c) sustainable models of community and family counseling, care and support; and (d) improving self-sufficiency and human dignity of communities and families afflicted by poverty and AIDS.

China-UNDP Community Based HIV/AIDS Care, Prevention and Poverty Reduction Project had a total budget of USD 850,000 from September 1, 2003 to December 31, 2006. Project area was Shanxi. Project components include: public awareness raising, condom promotion and use, VCT, care and support, multi-sectoral cooperation, anti-discrimination, participation of PLHIV and strategic planning. Target populations include the general public, government officials, PLHIV, AIDS patients and migrants.
