High Schools and Higher Education Institutions in Shanxi Province to Develop HIV/AIDS prevention IEC and Training

On May 6, Shanxi Province Health and Family Planning Commission and Shanxi Province Department of Health jointly launched the initiative of school-based HIV/AIDS prevention IEC and training, requiring all regular high schools, secondary vocational schools and higher education institutions to provide education on HIV/AIDS prevention and control, and achieve the targets of 95% awareness of HIV/AIDS prevention among junior and senior high school students and 100% awareness among college students.

The IEC and training initiative focuses on the theme of "In Youths' Campus, Prevent AIDS and Provide Care". The major activities are "Five One Series Activities", including a lecture on HIV/AIDS prevention in schools, establishment of a trainer team, a volunteer service group, and a WeChat platform for HIV/AIDS prevention, and a thematic event.

Regular high schools can integrate the HIV/AIDS education into physiological hygiene, morality, social practice and military training sessions (six sessions at junior high school, and four sessions at senior high school). Each regular higher education institution is required to arrange for at least one session per school term. All regular high schools, secondary vocational schools and higher education institutions are required to designate two teachers as trainers to receive training organized by health and family planning departments and be responsible for training the teachers and students at the schools/colleges. Each regular higher education institution is required to establish a volunteer service team to encourage and support youth students to join HIV/AIDS prevention IEC and education.
